At the Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon, thousands of people will run through the heart of the city and then out to the coastal surroundings of East Lothian.
Here are some spectator points along the route where you can cheer people on and see some stunning scenery along the way.

The Start Line. Here we are in the heart of the city and surrounded by the stunning buildings of Edinburgh University.
Immediately after the start line can be busy, so if you want to see your runner off from their first steps on the course, get there early. Otherwise, head further along to Forrest Road or George IV Bridge after the first turn of the course to get a little more space.
What3Words locations:
The exciting starting point in the city centre leads you through the heart of Edinburgh along the historic Royal Mile. Situated in Edinburgh's Old Town, the Royal Mile is a significant route as it extends from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyrood. This lively street is flanked by historical buildings, shops, pubs, and restaurants, offering spectators a vibrant atmosphere to cheer on the runners.
Moving forward, you'll pass by the Scottish Parliament building, where you can admire breathtaking views of Arthur's Seat, Salisbury Crags, and the Palace of Holyrood. Continuing eastward, you'll leave the Holyrood Park behind and head towards the coast.
What3Words locations:
This point is situated along the earlier stages of the marathon and nearing the halfway point of the half marathon. Portobello Beach offers a scenic sandy coastline along the Firth of Forth. It's known for its views of Arthur's Seat and the Edinburgh skyline. Visitors can enjoy the promenade with cafes and shops.
What3Words locations:
Here you'll see The Musselburgh Old Golf Course Club and Musselburgh Racecourse. Continuing eastward, you'll reach the historic village of Preston Pans. Half Marathon runners will turn back towards the Finish Line at Pinkie School's playing fields, while Full Marathon and Relay Runners will continue east to Gosford House, a grand neo-classical mansion designed by renowned architect Robert Adam.
Musselburgh is a great spectator point for marathon and half marathon supporters as you can see them twice, including at the final turn before entering the finish straight.
What3Words locations:
Port Seton is a coastal village located to the east of Musselburgh near Preston Pans. Spectators can enjoy watching the race while taking in the tranquil beauty of the coastline.
Not only will you be able to see the marathon runners, but two of the relay changeovers points are located here if you are supporting a group who are taking on the marathon distance.
